fine dining at Kai with Jan. :D

In the evening,  I usually do not go home yet from alabang office. I would take bus bound for ortigas, and get off at Ayala Station. I just have gotten used to it. Now, most of the nights, if I get to go home early, I would hang around with some friends in Ayala Makati first. Sometimes with officemates, sometimes with college friends, sometimes with my fellow creative writers…  On rare occassions, by myself.

Sometimes, I’m scared walking around makati during rush hours though. I’m afraid that I will see them. I don’t know yet how to react. I still haven’t played that scene yet in my head. Would I just pretend not to see them or something? hehe.

So a while ago, an old barkada and I met up to have our weekly chat. We usually do this kasi it’s fun. hehe. Being the natural geeks that we are, I guess.

Now Jan and I, we like eating.  We also like eating at fancy restaurants. Pero tipid modes parin. haha. We knew na around Greenbelt 5, meron nung mga maliliit na mga restaurants, na hindi ganun kamahal pero fancy tingnan. So nag tingin tingin kami. A few lakad later, lo and behold!

KAI.  Greenbelt 5. Right in front of that koi fish pond sa may Ayala Museum.

Sabi ko, “Wow! Ang ganda naman ng ambiance dito! Try natin dito Jan!” Jan was a little skeptical, kasi the place looked really expensive. Pero we asked for a menu and okay naman. So pasok kami. haha!

First, the place is really great. Sabi nga namin, okay dito mag date. (pero di kami nag date ha, just geek talk) Lights, color, temperature… amazing.

Their menu looked quite modest. Just the names and prices of the food and wala pictures. Pero okay lang. Tapos tapos, we ordered first ung Miso Soup nila.  It was great. Okay okay. Good good. May scallops. Good tofu.

Tapos nag tuna salad kami. Ay eto ang sarap! :D nung raw tuna. Pero di ko masyado na gustuhan ung vegetables kasi medyo bitter. O_o

They also served a separate sauce for the tuna salad.

Tapos, we ordered the tuna cream cheese maki. Ay eto patok din,  I like! The tuna in it was good, tapos may cream cheese. I don’t know, fan lang talaga ako ng tuna siguro. Raw or cooked. Kayalang when you eat this, sabi ni Jan wag ka ngingiti.  you will know why if you try one.

We didn’t order some fancy drinks like the shakes. We just asked for the green tea, which was also good. I liked their teacups.  hehe. One of the things I look for when I drink tea, is the after taste. Their tea was nice. It reminded me of a quiet afternoon in a quiet zen garden. :D

We also tried the unagi. Unagi was wonderful. Well kasi fan din ako ng unagi. Actually fan ako ng japanese food and naliligayahan ako talaga when it’s cooked really well. Yung ramen nga, wala pa ako nakikitang masarap na ramen dito sa philippines. As in.

A little later, we ordered the mixed tempura. Medyo nagulat ako kasi it wasn’t that expensive. The tempura sauce was also yummy. Two fat shrimps and vegetables.  hehe.

For our drinks, we ordered yung isang watermelon sake. Naaliw ako sa bottle, yun kasi ung may butas sa gitna. I was able to see something like that before, I wondered pa nga what was its purpose and yun pala, dun nilalagay yung ice. Para di mag mix sa drink. (galeng galeng!) By this time, amaze na amaze na ko and I kept shooting pictures.

The dessert part was fun, even if medyo common lang yung food. Smores! You could even do it at home. What really made it fun and worth it, was the presentation and the way they served it sa table.  They have this mini stove! Tapos dun mo roast yung marshmallows mo.

They served it with crackers and a generous whip of nutella. (or so i think it is).

One thing I’ve noticed too, is the wonderful attention given to you by the staff. They are very attentive and I always look for this in restaurants. They’re they kind of staff that you knew you’d pay a generous amount of tip after your meal.

They often changed the plates, made sure the table was clean and everything else was attended to.

I noticed that they also have a small sushi bar by the side, but we weren’t able to try that though.

So anyway, after we were done and after asking for the bill … natuwa ako kasi the receipt was wrapped up in a small green envelope :D awww. <3 cute.

The Kai restaurant in Greenbelt 5 was right on the money! I really recommend this place to people who are looking for a good place in Makati. :) They have good food, great ambiance, wonderful service and reasonable prices.  I would certainly go back here again! haha! Pero sabi ni jan, this time dapat may manlilibre na sakin.

Have you been to shinjiku ramen resto along makati avenue? I think its across pizza hut. That’s the best ramen house for my family. My mom is Japanese. Medyo malaki lang ang regular serving so you can split your order. Also try their gyoza, the best in town!!!

    Happy eating!
